KAIROS
– VIOLIN CONSORT –
“Heaven does not give an opportunity twice . . . everything depends on the right moment” Lü Buwei (291 BC – 235 BC).
KAIROS: God of the favourable opportunity and of the right moment, the passing of which could be detrimental.
The musical encounter between Veronika, Prisca and Thomas was all that was needed to make the swift decision to not let the moment pass but to seize the opportunity by the forelock and form:
KAIROS – Violin Consort.
In an era where time becomes ever faster and more frenetic – a Titan of boundless power which devours its own children – the ensemble strives for a way of making music which is characterized by a deep connection in the present.
Everyone knows them: the occasions in which chronological, metrical time seems fleetingly suspended, in which physical laws no longer apply. It is there we find a deep, eternal stillness, a metaphysical time, from which music can emerge. In these opportune moments we have access to gifts in another realm, fruits to be harvested.
KAIROS offers a sound emission aimed at enriching every single instant, an present for oneself and for others, a drop of timelessness in the surrounding ocean of turbulence.
What is a violin consort?
In the Renaissance and early Baroque eras, all instruments were built in complete „families“, from a treble form all the way down to a bass one. For consort music-making the most significant instrument families were those of the recorder and Viola da Gamba, but also lesser-known instruments such as bassoons could be heard in consort. Similarly, violins of varying sizes (violin, viola, tenor and bass violin) are members of a common genus, and, thanks to their shared DNA, form a natural unity in dialogue.
Veronika Skuplik – Violin
Prisca Stalmarski – Violin/Tenor viola
Thomas Pitt – Bass violin
